My Mom!
I grew up in a blue collar household among a white collar neighborhood. We did not have excess cash to spend on fashion, and most of our clothes (at least the younger ones) were hand-me-downs. But my mom was a classic dresser. She always found a way to look fashionable without spending a lot of money (which we didn't have). What my mom taught me was invaluable! I learned to keep my wardrobe simple but coordinated. Mom taught us how to put different fashions together so that we were coordinated and presentable. My mom was also a sewer, not a seamstress, but she taught us all how to sew and how to shop for fabrics, colors, designs, etc. All of this taught me a great deal. Today I have a career in fashion, display and interior design. I love fashion, but I keep to basic elements and build around them. It's not difficult to put a fashionable wardrobe together... it just takes some common sense, an eye towards simplicity and classic elements, and a modest attitude. Everyone can participate in the fashion game with these basic steps.

Re: My Mom!
Jackie you could not be more "on target" with your statement. I have always used the "when else can I use this..." before I buy a top, dress, etc. Being able to mix and match different tops, skirts and so on is the way to add versatility to your wardrobe, and stay within budget. I am also getting better at removing garmets that do not fit me or do not fit with other pieces I have. I have been amazed at how good I feel when extra space has been captured in my closet. Kj

Re: My Mom!
Jackie,
I love that you make your words nice and clear for me to understand. Your mom was one classic women. And probally thought about her fashion daily. I try to look as fashionable as I can, but also trying keep the simplicity of it. Like you said, with a modest attitude, I think we should still find ways to act like women, and look like women. We should try to be fashionable but also look appropriate for our gender. I personally think that all women should be high on their actions. I don't believe in gay and lesbians actions. To get back on the subject I think male and female should be just what it is. Women should look like women and men should look like men. Women should act like women and men should act like men.
When you said that 'yall had hand me down clothes, you should really think about your hearts. What's inside of you is what really matters. I would have never guessed you were that kind of child because you look great today! I wish you the best of luck, and hope you find your style on mvm!
